Door styles
Swing-out
Two sections hinged at the sides that open outward like carriage doors. A distinctive look, but you need clear space in front.
Roll-up
Rolls into a drum above the opening, saving space inside and out. Usually paired with a remote opener.
Swing-up
A single panel that tilts out and up to lie flat under the ceiling. Suits garages with room in front and overhead.
Side-sliding
Slides along the inside wall. Needs wall space beside the opening, so it doesn't suit every garage.
Materials
- Wood: attractive and often affordable, but needs regular maintenance.
- Steel: tough, relatively inexpensive and low maintenance.
- Aluminum: light and durable; newer styles can be costly.
- Fiberglass: lightweight, strong and long lasting, at a higher price.
Choosing the right door
Start with the space you have: how much room is in front of the garage, how much headroom inside and whether the side walls are clear. Then weigh security, maintenance and budget. A technician can measure the opening and explain which styles will work before you commit.
Secure the garage
An attached garage is a common way into a house. Ask about locks for the side door, the door into the house and the garage door itself. See our residential and commercial services, or call 818-942-3093 for a quote.
