Key types we program
Transponder keys
A small chip in the key head carries a code. The car's engine control unit reads it and only disengages the immobilizer if the code matches, so a key with the wrong code turns but won't start the engine.
Remote keys
A fob with buttons that lock and unlock the doors by radio signal. The remote functions need pairing as well as the transponder.
Flip keys
The blade folds into the fob. Inside it works like a transponder key with a remote, so it needs both cutting and programming.
When you need key programming
- Your only key is lost or stolen
- The key is broken or the blade is damaged
- The fob has stopped working
- The transponder chip is damaged
- You want a spare before something goes wrong
How it works
- Tell us the vehicle. Make, model and year let us confirm which key and equipment are needed.
- Check ownership. The technician confirms you own or are authorized to use the vehicle.
- Cut and program. The key is cut, then paired to the car with programming equipment.
- Test. We check the blade, the remote buttons and that the engine starts.
A spare key costs much less than replacing a lost set in a hurry. Call 818-942-3093 for a quote, or read our car key replacement guide. Back to automotive locksmith services.
Frequently asked questions
Can you program a key I bought online?
Sometimes. Many aftermarket keys and fobs can be cut and programmed, but some are low quality or the wrong type. Call with the details before you buy.
Do I need the car with me?
Yes. Programming pairs the key with the vehicle, so the technician needs access to the car.
