An emergency locksmith is simply a locksmith who takes urgent calls outside normal working hours. Knowing what they handle, and what to do while you wait, makes a stressful situation easier.

Locked out of a home, car or business, or lost the only key.
Broken keys
A key snapped in the lock or ignition. Extraction needs care so the lock still works afterwards.

What to do first
- Stay safe. If you feel unsafe, move somewhere public or lock yourself in your car. After a break-in, call the police before touching anything.
- Call a locksmith. Give your location, what happened and the type of lock or vehicle.
- Ask for a quote. Including any after-hours charge.
- Have ID ready. The locksmith will need proof you're entitled to access.
What the locksmith does on arrival
They'll check ID, confirm the price and then open the lock using the least damaging method available. If a lock must be drilled or replaced, they'll explain why and quote first. After a break-in they may fit a temporary fix, replace locks or reinforce the strike so the door can be secured.
Avoiding overpaying
